Siva Afi Aotearoa
Creating spaces for young people to build skill + confidence through siva afi.
Siva Afi Ailao is a tradition rooted in Samoan culture that incorporates the Samoan weapon nifo oti, or war knife with fire.
Siva Afi Aotearoa is about creating a pathway for our youth to create their own successes! Our ambition is for Siva Afi to be accessible to all youth, as a way to build-up the skill and confidence, just as activities such as Hip Hop, Kapa Haka and team sports are.
Annually we produce the Siva Afi Festival, a fixture for Pacific and Maori youth, just like ASB Secondary School Polyfest and Pasifika Festival, to showcase the art form of Siva Afi or fire dance from the Pacific. It’s a platform for youth to showcase their skills and acknowledge of Siva Afi Ailao.
We also run a regular programme of workshops in the community to teach the basic skills of Siva Afi and Drumming and to build the confidence of those participating.
